The second week in August we took a much needed vaca to the Cape; we stayed in Provincetown but spent some time in Orleans and Welfleet as well. I can’t begin to express how friendly and fun Ptown is! Last summer we went for a day trip (my first time) so I got a small taste of it, but after a full week there I can’t wait to go back! Although summer is over, Ptown would be a great fall visit as well! I would expect it to be much less crowded and you may even hit some awesome off season sales on Commercial Street!
Here’s my best recap…
Local 186 – right in the heart of Ptown on Commercial Street. Burgers of every kind. The fried artichokes are TO DIE for and my turkey burger was delicious!
Bubalah’s – Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating with extensive menu. Between 4 of us we ate fish, lamb, steak and pasta and all enjoyed our meals, so you can’t really go wrong here.
Lobster Pot – Looks small from the outside but is actually two floors and has plenty of seating! Typically a long wait but grab a cocktail, or a few, while you wait – the food is worth it! Their lengthy menu is packed with seafood of all kinds.
Started off lunch with this bad boy – mango, avocado, lobster – my 3 faves!
Saki – Amazing sushi and Asian cuisine with fabulous decor and vibes. My pineapple fried rice was served IN a pineapple! Definitely try this place out!
We wear hats when it rains 🙂
Herring Cove is a beautiful beach that is actually a National Park as well. Plenty of space on the beach and the parking lot with a decent food options and clean bathrooms!
Teatime – Boatslip hotel turns into a nightclub from 4-7pm everyday with pop up bars and dance floor. Teatime drink is a dangerous yet delicious rum punch topped with 151 down a straw…you’re welcome.
Commercial Street is where you will find all of Ptown’s fun…there are so many cute shops to check out that it is really hard to recommend just a few. We really liked Kiss and Makeup which sells beauty products of all kinds for men and women. Brendan discovered his favorite beard products there last summer on our day trip – Billy Jealousy & Damn Handsome Beard Co.
We stayed in Orleans Sunday night with family so Monday morning we headed down to Skaket Beach which is truly one of a kind – with low tide, the beach stretched out almost a mile. There are many tide pools where the little ones can search for creatures and perfect for adults posting some chairs in some (actually) warm water. Perfection.
If you have a family and/or enjoy the movies, make sure to check out the Drive-In Theater! It was my first time at a drive-in movie and I enjoyed it so much! They were hosting a double feature – Finding Dory & Secret Life of Pets. It was affordable and nice for the kids if you have an SUV to open the back and use as a lounge area. We took our beach chairs and sat outside of the car. They have a full concession stand, but I wish we had planned ahead because I likely would’ve brought our own snacks since it is not like the usual theater where they are a big N-O.
FOR NEXT TIME…
There were a lot of great things we heard about, but just didn’t have time to fit them in…Here are some that are on my to-see/do list for next time that you may enjoy!
Arnold’s – We went to get seafood here one night but the line was crazy long, but it is known for one of the best on the Cape (Eastham)
The Canteen – A small fast casual dining in Ptown where you can inside or outside on picnic tables. Known for lobster rolls, good vibes and unique menu.
Race Point – Another gorg beach…supposedly. Hope to check it out next time!
Bocce – Italian food with bocce courts in Welfleet. How fun does that sound?
We stayed at the Provincetown Inn which was soo convenient, but for the price, we absolutely could’ve found something better. Their pool is (possibly?) the only pool in Ptown, but you don’t have to be a guest to attend. For next time, we will definitely use AirBnB.
Side note – the pool gets super crowded early so head down early and prepare to spend heavy at the bar on delicious cocktails!
Ptown is VERY dog friendly (yay!)…you can even bring your dog on some of the beaches there. We will definitely consider bringing Daisy girl next time 🙂
